African start-ups are on a funding rally with more money raised in 2018 than in the whole of last year.

Hallway through the year, with 118 deals completed, start-up funding on the continent has reached $168.8m-surpassing last year's total of $167.7m, according to a report by WeeTracker.

The total funding is also a near 4-fold increase on the $47.2m raised in the first half of 2017.
