Aston Villa duo including Digne clutch heads in agony as Everton fans throw bottles

In what’s been a somewhat scrappy affair at Goodison Park, Villa finally got a goal in injury time of the first-half

Emi Buendia flicked a looping header past Jordan Pickford just before the end of the first-half -but in the subsequent celebrations Digne, an Everton player two weeks ago, and Cash went down holding their heads after a bottle was thrown from the Everton end.

The match was always going to be contentious, with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard in the Villa dugout, while Digne had famously kicked up a stink about playing for the Toffees when Rafa Benitez was in charge, forcing a move away last week.

But things turned ugly when the bottle clunked the two Villa players before the end of the half.

People took to social media to express their dismay at the incident.

One wrote: “It’s never acceptable to throw projectiles at anyone on a football pitch, ever. Booing Digne was bad enough but that was next level stupid. Hopefully the club take swift action.”
