Balcony fall woman set for trip home from Thailand

The teacher, who is originally from Morpeth but has been living in Thailand for around six years, sustained serious spinal injuries when she and a friend fell from the balcony on December 18

Giving an emotional update from her hospital bed in Samui last week, the 47-year-old said she dreams of coming home to see her family and dogs.

And thanks to the generous donations from the public, her family have finally been able to make plans for her return home.

Jill's sister, Katie Breeze, said: "It will be such a huge relief to have Jill back home.

"We've been talking to her on messenger, but just to have her here and to see her and hug her it will be such a relief and we can't wait."

Currently, it is hoped that Jill will be able to begin her journey back to the UK on January 29, providing her condition remains stable and Covid travel rules are met.

She will need an air ambulance from Samui to Bangkok as there are no commercial flights available from Samui to the UK.

Then she will fly commercial to the UK with a three-person team as she has very little mobility.

This will cost a total of £36,300. The family also estimate a further £2,500-£3,000 for medical bills while she remains in Thailand, as well as further costs to make adaptations to her mum's bungalow, where she will live when she returns home.

A GOFUNDME page set up for Jill has already raised over £35,000 of a £40,000 target to support the family, with over 1,400 donations received on the page.

And members of the community have also been holding fundraisers to raise money to support the family's efforts, with Morpeth School holding a nonuniform day and Morpeth Masonic

Hall also holding a fundraiser on February 4.

Jill said: "I just want to say thank you. I mean saying thank you doesn't seem enough.

"I just feel lucky, lucky that there's so many kind people out there to help people in need and help me to help me get back to my family."
