The value of global mergers and acquisitions in the first three months of this year hit S608.3bn, a rise of 32.7 per cent compared with the same period in 2010. Transactions by energy, mining and utilities companies led to the highest level of activity since the first quarter of 2007, when the value of M&A deals was $806.9bn, according to data provider merger-market.
