Brit killed with 'sickle' in horror holiday attack after man goes on knife rampage

Another man is fighting for his life in hospital after being involved in the same row, with a local in Kanchanaburi, in the south west of the Asian country, in the early hours of this morning

Police have arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the shocking incident. Local reports named the suspect as Prasut Thipthep.

Reports said that the deceased man was found face down in a pool of blood with blade wounds to his neck. His name is being withheld pending authorities informing his family.

The deceased, 49, is reportedly originally from Somerset.

The hospitalised man has been named locally as Shaun Kevin Dagnan, who is reportedly his friend, is 55-years-old and from Nuneaton, Warwickshire.

Mr Dagnan is said to be out of immediate danger but is still receiving close medical care at Paholpolpayuhasena Hospital, according to police.

Local police said that the pair had earlier been drinking beer and playing loud music at around 3am before they were attacked.

Local media reports say the suspect has a history of mental health problems. After the attack, he was physically attacked by angry residents and treated at hospital, reports in Thailand said.

The Bangkok Post said police have charged him with murder and attempted murder.

He is being held at the Muang district police station for further interrogation.
