Finance directors are frustrated by their inability to measure the return on investment in employees and want a greater role in managing human capital, according to a survey by Mercer Human Resource Consulting. Businesses spend 36 per cent of their revenues on human capital--ie, pay, benefits and training--but only 16 per cent of financial managers understand the return they are getting.
