CHAIRMAN-PS NOTES
As this is the first issue of &dquo; Probation &dquo; to which I
have contributed the Chairman’s Notes, may I say how
conscious I am of the great honour paid to me in electing
me as Chairman of N.A.P.O. for the coming year. From
my knowledge of the Association I know I can count on
that loyal and friendly support so ireely given to my
predecessors. For my part, I am looking forward to my
period of office, and shall endeavour at all times to serve
the Association to the best of my ability.

Criticism has been made regarding the decision of the
National Executive to hold only two meetings during the
ensuing N.A.P.O. year, and the delegation of executive
power to ’ a General Purposes Sub-Committee.
This
decision, together with that reducing the number of sub-
committees, was made following the grave warning given
by the Auditor that the sum spent on executive and sub-
committee meetings was excessive, having regard to the
total income received by the Association.
When arriving at this decision, the General Purposes
Committee was charged with reviewing the whole of the
financial position, especially that relating to expenditure
on committees, with a view to submitting proposals for
consideration by the Branches, which would result in
economy, and still preserve the democratic constitution
of the Association. It is hoped that every member will

give earnest consideration to this matter and take part
public service. All we can do is to make a contribution
in the discussion arising when Branches consider any
