The Worker Registration Scheme was in place until April 2011.

It replaced work permits for nationals of the eight Central European countries that joined the EC on 1st May 2004. The eight Central European countries were: Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.

They had to apply to the Home Office for a Worker Registration Certificate as soon they start a job. If they had more than one job at any one time, each job had to be registered with the Worker Registration Scheme.
