CIMA gauges morale in mid-sized firms.

The institute has launched its first "confidence monitor" of members working in medium-sized businesses across the UK.

"It is designed to help us better understand how the mid-size market is coping in the current economic climate and will aim to identify varying degrees of confidence in business," explained Simon Davies, customer and market insight manager at CIMA. "This will enable us to appreciate the challenges that these firms face and identify ways in which we can improve our support for them."

The survey will compare business performance in 2008 with forecast business performance in 2009 using indicators such as turnover, overheads, supplier prices, salaries and training budgets. It will also examine the effects of the government's macroeconomic policy and its initiatives to help medium-sized businesses.
