Colleges join forces with business in skills project

Loughborough, Leicester and North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire (NWSLC) colleges, plus SMB College Group, have joined forces with East Midlands Chamber and the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity (Cimpsa).

Together, they will explore how the further education and physical activity sectors can play a role in health and the wider economy, particularly around preventative health and long

Covid recovery, as well as other social issues such as youth crime, education, the ageing population and social mobility.

Jo Maher, principal at Loughborough College, said: "The impact on human health has never been more important to understand and to improve."

Marion Plant, principal at NWSLC, said: "Through this initiative all the partners will be able to work towards extending training across industry sectors and develop stronger relationships with employers."

Verity Hancock, principal at Leicester College, said: "The pandemic has been particularly challenging for the whole further education sector.

"This opportunity to collaborate with the East Midlands Chamber, Cimpsa and other colleges in Leicestershire will provide us with a platform to focus more sharply on the skills agenda and help to make a positive impact...
