MATT MCDONALD is Assistant Professor in International Security in the
Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of
Warwick. His research interests and activity are in critical approaches to secu-
rity, and in particular their application to environmental change, Australian
foreign and security policy, Asia-Pacific security and elements of the ‘war on
terror’. He is editor (with Anthony Burke) of Critical Security in the Asia-
Pacific (Manchester University Press, 2007), and is currently completing a
book manuscript examining the relationship between security and environ-
mental change.
HANS-MARTIN JAEGER is an Assistant Professor in the Department of
Political Science at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. His research
interests include international political theory and sociology, international
organization and global governance, and public spheres in world politics. He
has published articles in International Political Sociology, Review of
International Studies and Zeitschrift für Internationale Beziehungen.
ALEJANDRO COLÁS teaches at the School of Politics and Sociology,
Birkbeck College, University of London where he directs the MSc/MRes in
International Security and Global Governance. He is author of Empire (Polity,
2007), International Civil Society: Social Movements and World Politics (Polity,
2002), and co-editor with Richard Saull of The War on Terrorism and
American ‘Empire’ after the Cold War (Routledge, 2005).
ANDREAS DÜR is a lecturer in the School of Politics and International
Relations, University College Dublin. He holds a PhD from the Department
of Social and Political Sciences of the European University Institute in
Florence. Among his research interests are international trade policy, interna-
tional negotiations, and state–society relations. His recent work has appeared
in such journals as Comparative Political Studies, International Studies
