The authors wish to add the following reference and update the article for the benefit of
the reader:
1. On page 12, the sentence ‘. . . the trans-Europeanisation of defence industry has
been driven by endogenous market factors, that is, economic threats to the
defence industry’ is now followed with a new endnote (no. 7):
From a different theoretical perspective – that of Neo-Gramscian Historical
Materialism – Kurc and Oktay (2018) put forward a similar argument that the
transnational defence-industrial class in Europe and its economic interest formed
the post–Cold War development of international armaments organisations, such
as OCCAR and EDA.
2. On page 12, a reference to Kurc and Oktay’s 2018 article is added to the refer-
ences at the end of this sentence:
Consequently, the following EU effort to establish EDTIB and EDEM promotes,
to a significant extent, the interests of the major defence–industrial actors
(Castellacci et al., 2014; Mawdsley, 2018, Kurc and Oktay, 2018).
