Covid Scotland: 10 Edinburgh neighbourhoods with highest confirmed virus rates

Public Health Scotland has released its weekly list of so-called 'Covid hotspots' which show some parts of the city hit much harder than others during this wave of the deadly virus.

Ratho, Ingliston and Gogar recorded a whopping 2,088 cases per 100,000 of the population over the past seven days, making it the Edinburgh area with the most new coronavirus cases.

Fairmilehead at 1,567 cases per 100,000 and in third place, Dalmeny, Kirkliston and Newbridge with 1,458.

With a rate of 1,243, Cramond was named as having the next highest number of new cases. Granton West and Salvesen had 1,241.

Next up is Northfield and Piershill with 1,173 per 100,000 and Gilmerton South and the Murrays with 1,160. Niddrie has 1,137.

Restalrig and Lochend had 1,089 and Clovenstone and Wester Hailes 1,082.

In comparison, Polwarth had 291 cases per 100,000 in the past seven days, meaning it currently least affected, although that does still put the neighbourhood in one of the highest Covid infection brackets.

Across Scotland on Sunday there were 5,912 new cases of coronavirus overnight, this accounted for 11.5 per cent of tests taken.

There were no new deaths, but 88 people were in intensive care and 1,019 patients in hospital with the virus.

According to the daily Scottish Government figures, 4,140,616 people have received the first dose of the Covid vaccination and 3,777,461 have received their second dose.
