ROAD AND RAIL TRAFFIC ACT
(EXEMPTION)
REGULATIONS,
1957. S.1.
NO.
525 OF 1957
THE SE Regulations came into force on 16th April, 1957,
and
re-enact with amendments the Road
and
Rail Traffic
Act (Exemption) Regulations, 1951, which granted exemption
in certain cases from the need for a carrier's licence.
The
principal changes are
that
exemption is extended to cover:
(a) dual purpose vehicles when used:
(i) by commercial travellers to carry samples,
(ii) for the carriage of tools and materials required
by the driver in carrying on his trade or business,
or
(iii) by farmers
under
an
'F'
excise licence.
(b)
the use of a vehicle fitted with plant and carrying only
articles required for the operation of the plant
and
the vehicle.
(c)
the use of a vehicle to distribute grit, salt, etc., on
roads during wintry conditions.

REGULATIONS, 1957. S.1.

359 OF 1957
These
Regulations came into operation on
rst
April, 1957,
and
amend
the
Motor
Vehicles (Construction
and
Use)
Regulations, 1955. As from
the
rst
January, 1958, two mirrors
are required to be fitted to all passenger vehicles adapted to
carry more
than
seven passengers exclusive of
the
driver
and
to all goods vehicles, including dual purpose vehicles.
There
are new requirements as to the fitting of safety glass in vehicles
first registered on or after
the
rst
January, 1959; there is a
new regulation about
the
use of television receiving sets in
motor vehicles and the provisions regarding direction indicators
are amended.
