and
National
Conference
of
the
Association
will
be
held
at
Durham
University
in
July.
Conference
will
assemble
at
tea
time
on
Friday,
July
llth,
and
break-up
after
breakfast
on
Monday,
July
14th.
The
Annual
General
Meeting
.of
the
Association
will
be
held
on
Friday
evening,
July
llth.
On
Saturday
morning
it
is
hoped
that
the
Secretary
of
State
for
Home
Affairs,
The
Rt.
Hon.
J.
Chuter
Ede,
will
be
present
to
address the
members.
The
following
themes
will
be
dealt
with:
Saturday’
afternoon:
Domestic
Proceedings,
with
particular
reference
to
the
Denning
Report.
Sunday
morning:
The
place
of
Homes
and
Hostels
in
the
Probation
Service.
Sunday
afternoon:
After-care
of
young
prisoners,
Borstal
and
Approved
School
inmates.
On
Sunday
evening
there
will
be
a
group
discussion in
each
of
the
three
Colleges
in
which
probation
officers
will
be
accommodated.
One
of
the
officers
of
the
local
Branch
of
the
Justices’
Clerks’
Association
will
attend
at
each
College
to
take
part
in
the
discussion.
A
Service
will
be
held
on
Sunday
morning
in
Durham
Cathedral,
and
a
Social
Evening
is
being
arranged
for
Saturday
evening.
The
Conference
fee,
payable
in
advance,
will
be
37s.
6d.
for
the
whole
period
(10s.
6d.
if
hospitality
is
not
re-
quired).
A
certain
number
of
meals
will
be
possible
in
the
Colleges
for
non-residents.
It
will
not
be
possible
this
year
to
make
any
allowance
off
the
full
Conference
fee
for
those
members
who
may
not
be
able
to
stay
for
the
whole
period.

asked
by
Family
Service
Units
to
give
some
publicity
to
the
work
of
the
organisation
and
its
need
for
funds.
The
organisation
aims
at
rehousing
and
rehabilitating
sub-standard
families.
Pioneer
experiments
have
been
carried
out
in
Liverpool
and
Manchester,
and
London
is
the
next
objective.
The
method
is
&dquo;Intensive
and
patient
personal
service
combined
with
practical
assistance
and
social
education
in
the
home.&dquo;
Family
Service
Units
has
established
co-operation
with
a
number
of
organisations
directly
concerned with
the
problem.
The
co-operation
of
the
Ministry
of
Health,
the
Ministry
of
Education,
the
Home
Office
and
the
Assistance
Board
has
been
promised.
The
aim
of
F.S.U.
is
to
provide
a
service
at
the
disposal
of
other
departments
and
bodies
to
be
used
by
them
on
particular
cases
needing
specialised
treatment.
Co-ordination
of
existing
work
and
the
co-
operation
of
all
agencies
concerned with
the
problem
is
regarded
as
essential.
