Discussion: Derrida – Negotiating
the Legacy
The following article ‘The Future of Critical Philosophy and World
Politics’ was presented by Richard Beardsworth as a keynote address at
a conference organised by the Aberystwyth Post-International Group
(APIG) entitled Derrida: Negotiating the Legacy (University of Wales,
Aberystwyth, 6-8 January 2005). Together with this article, we publish
the transcript of a roundtable discussion which took place immediately
after the paper’s presentation and an afterword by Richard
Beardsworth. Along with critical reflections on the importance of the
work of Jacques Derrida for the discipline of International Relations, the
discussion focussed significantly on the challenge that Richard
Beardsworth’s paper articulated.
The Editors of Millennium would like to thank the co-convenors of APIG,
the Department of International Politics and the David Davies Memorial
Institute at the University of Wales Aberystwyth, and the University of
Wales’ Gregynog Colloquia Support Fund.
