Dr Hilary issues warning about using indoor gyms when they reopen; Gyms have been closed since March due the coronavirus lockdown, but they could open up again soon.

Dr Hilary Jones has issued a warning about the potential dangers of using indoor gyms as soon as they reopen.

It comes after the World Health Organisation acknowledged COVID-19 could be transmitted through the air, as well as through droplets.

Dr Hilary appeared on Good Morning Britain to urge fitness fanatics to be cautious if they plan on returning to the gym as soon as they open, which could be as early as next week if the prime minister confirms -as expected -they can open again from mid-July, with safety measures.

"If you have been to a gym and you're doing aerobic work, you're breathing very fast and anything in your nose and throat is being expelled much more explosively than if you are sitting quietly in a pub," he explained.

"Up to now, we've known that the virus is a respiratory infection and it's transmitted through droplets expelled through the noses and mouths and throats of people who carry COVID-19.

"It's transmitted through droplets of saliva, which are too small to see but are in the exhaled air from people who speak to us, who cough and sneeze, hence wearing masks. It's very important.
