Regular readers of the journal will no doubt have noticed the change in the appearance of the
current issue. In late October, after the last issue had gone to press, we were informed that
Intersentia, which has published EJSS since 2003, had decided to transfer a number of its
English-language journals, including EJSS, to SAGE publishing. We were very surprised because
we had, over the years, developed a very cordial relationship with Intersentia.
In coming to this decision, the publisher, Kris Moeremans, explained how difficult it was, in the
changedmarket for academic journals, for a publisher like Intersentia to make the investmentsneeded
to keep up with developments in marketing and technology and to persuade libraries to subscribe to
packagedeals of digital journalswhen much largerpublishers can offermuch more attractive deals. He
thoughtthat EJSS would benefit from beingpart of SAGE’s journal platform, which currently has over
3,000 subscribers, and that, inthis way, there should be a significant increase in thenumber of people
who are able to accessthe journal and a corresponding increase in its impact. In addition, the fact that
the journal would be able to use the Scholar One platform, which we have been very keen to adopt,
would greatly facilitate the peer reviewprocess and the selection of articles.
The transition from Intersentia to SAGE Publishing has proceeded very smoothly and all the
existing editorial policy and peer-review procedures, and the identities of the general editors, the
book review editors, the editorial assistants and the editorial board, will remain in place. We would
like to conclude by thanking Kris Moeremans and his editorial team at Intersentia for their benign
oversight and for the friendly and helpful way in which they have supported EJSS for the last 14
years. We look forward to working with Lucy Robinson and her team at SAGE, and to steering the
journal into the next stage of its development.
