Editors’ note on the Best
Review Prize
With the ambition to acknowledge in full the often overlooked work of reviewers, the
editors of Cooperation and Conflict have decided to inaugurate a Best Review Prize of
€1000. It will be awarded annually for the best review of an article, or set of articles,
published in the previous year’s volume of the journal.
In connection with the special issue of decentering intervention, we are proud to
announce that Dr Branwen Gruffydd Jones receives 2017’s Best Review Prize for having
gone far beyond the expectations that editors might have when it comes to colleagues
taking on the responsibility of reviewing original submissions and following up on man-
uscripts later on in the process. As a reviewer, Branwen is consistently insightful with
regard to substantive comments; knowledgeable as a guide for situating the reviewed
work in the broader field of IR scholarship; and encouraging while maintaining a percep-
tive eye to the critical yet constructive. As per the specified criteria for the Best Review
Prize, her efforts as a reviewer have ensured the theoretical innovativeness, methodo-
logical rigour and empirical richness of the reviewed manuscripts. In addition, she has
proven herself capable not only of assisting submitting authors in significantly improv-
ing their work, but also of enabling discussions among the editors concerning the current
and future state of our discipline. Branwen has hence succeeded both with acting as the
ideal reviewer in relation to individual submissions and with allowing for broader con-
nections and forward-looking reflections to be made. In light of this, it is our great pleas-
ure to award Cooperation and Conflict’s inaugural Best Review Prize to Dr Branwen
Gruffydd Jones. The review of the articles in the special issue on decentering interven-
tion is published in this issue.
