Emma Raducanu's South London home club hails 'hero' US Open champion in emotional scenes

The 18-year-old's former coach Harry Bushnell, and strength and conditioning trainer Suzanne Williams, were filled with emotion as they watched the tense match from Parklangley Club in Beckenham where the star athlete played.

Chants of the tennis pro’s name could be heard throughout as dozens of fans of the athlete burst into tears of joy following the final moments of the match in New York.

The South London club which “will always be behind her” were elated as they celebrated Emma’s unbelievable achievement and hailed her a “hero” for her stunning performance.

Emma’s former coach, Harry said: “I said earlier on if she was going to win, she would win with straight sets, I mean it is just a joke of an achievement for her.

“I think it was important that she got it done in that second set.”

“Fair play to her opponent she was equally as unbelievable.”

At one point during the nail-biting final, Emma fell to the ground and scraped her knee but she managed to pick herself up and take home the title.

Harry said he “winced” in that moment but hailed his protege as a “hero” for carrying on.

The coach said: “That reminded me of when she fell over on Claker Way when I was teaching her how to slide once and her dad just told her to get up and get on with it.”
