Forest wildfire is deemed 'accident' due to high temperatures

HE cause of the wildfire in Delamere Forest has now been recorded as 'accidental due to high ambient temperatures'

The confirmation from the authorities comes after the blaze broke out in the beauty spot near Barnsbridge Gates Car Park at about 5.40pm on Tuesday, July 19.

There were eight fire engines at the incident and crews battled through the night to bring the blaze under control.

A police cordon was also set up and people were urged to stay away from the area.

Firefighters were at the scene through the night and most of the next day.

An update from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service at 4pm on Wednesday, July 20, confirmed the incident was handed over to forest rangers.

The Cheshire Police Rural Crime Team posted on its Facebook page last week that it was ' potentially caused by a disposable barbecue or open fire'.

But now both police and the fire service have confirmed that the cause was accidental.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "The fire has been confirmed as accidental and caused by extreme temperatures."
