| Library | IP Laws and Regimes in Major Asian Economies |
Intellectual property (IP) laws have become an important instrument for economic prosperity in Asia. It is commonly accepted that Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, China and India serve as IP success stories in their own ways. The world IP puzzle is not complete without the pieces of Asian IP laws. These Asian economies have gone through three stages of legal transplant, localization (or internalization) and taking a stance on international IP rulemaking. 1 Their IP laws and regimes have been uniquely woven into their development fabric. Some Asian features and insights could perhaps offer inspiration for the international IP community to pause and reflect.
However, there is a shortage of literature that looks at Asian IP laws across major Asian jurisdictions, 2 and a surprising dearth of Asian-centric literature on Asian IP laws by Asians. 3
This alone already makes a pressing demand for writing and publication of works like this volume. In addition, Asia is in dire need, more than ever, of more understanding and cooperation to secure peace in this part of the world long troubled by multiple geopolitical and historical frictions.
