Glossary
Blockchain A shared, immutable ledger that facilitates the
process of recording transactions and tracking
assets in a business network. The blockchain acts
like a conveyor belt, recording transactions as data
linked to the preceding block of data. This
continual linking of data provides an element of
security against unauthorised changes as one
cannot change one transaction on the blockchain
without impacting the succeeding blocks of data.
The asset which is recorded on the blockchain
may be a tangible asset (such as a house, a car,
cash or land) or intangible assets (such as intellectual
property, patents, copyrights or branding) or a
record of obligations, warranties and rights (such
as a smart contract).
Blog A regularly updated web page or website which is
written in a conversational style and is usually
maintained by an individual (known as the blogger)
or a small group of individuals. The style and
format are very similar to that of a newspaper’s
editorial page.
Cloud (including
cloud accounts,
cloud storage, etc)
A non-localised storage device that can be
accessed through networked computing facilities.
This non-localised drive provides remote data
storage and processing services via the internet.
One of the advantages of this non-localised drive
is that the data can be recovered from any web-
enabled location.
Crypto-currency A digital record in which transactions are verified
and records maintained by a decentralised system
of networked computers using cryptography,
rather than by a centralised banking system or
traditional banking authority. A crypto-currency
utilises individual crypto-tokens to facilitate trades
and exchanges.
