A Great day for Scott as he claims elite crown

Scott, born in Northallerton in North Yorkshire, represented Great Britain in the 5,000m and the 10,000m at this Games, reaching the final of the longer event.

He has now capped an impressive year with victory in a time of 1:01:22, nine seconds ahead of Kenya's Edward Cheserek, who finished in 1:01:31, while American Galen Rupp took third place with 1:01:51 after a sprint with Great Britain's Jake Smith.

It's the first time since 2013 that the race hasn't been won by Mo Farah, with the six-time champion absent this time.

Scott, 27, is a double British champion, previously winning the 5,000m event at the 2018 and 2020 British Athletics Championships.

He is the British and European record holder for the indoor 5,000m and the British record holder for the road 5k.

Kenya's Hellen Obiri triumphed in the elite women's race.
