Greenwich Hospital Act, 1942

(5 & 6 Geo. 6.) CHAPTER 35.

An Act to extend the powers of the Admiralty under section twenty of the Greenwich Hospital Act, 1865, with respect to the grant and allocation of pensions and pecuniary benefits in the case of persons employed for the purposes of Greenwich Hospital and otherwise to amend the said section; to provide, on the death of any such persons, for the distribution without probate or other proof of title of sums not exceeding one hundred pounds due to those persons or to their legal personal representatives; and for purposes connected with the matters aforesaid.

Be it enacted by the King's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

S-1 Extension of powers to grant pensions to persons employed for the purposes of Greenwich Hospital.

1 Extension of powers to grant pensions to persons employed for the purposes of Greenwich Hospital.

(1) The powers conferred on the Admiralty by section twenty of the Greenwich Hospital Act, 1865 , as extended by section eight of the Greenwich Hospital Act, 1872 , shall extend and be deemed always to have extended so as to include power—

(a ) to grant from the funds of Greenwich Hospital such pensions or pecuniary benefits as the Admiralty think fit to persons employed for the purposes of Greenwich Hospital, or to their legal personal representatives, widows or dependants; and

(b ) to contribute towards the payment by any other authority or person of pensions or pecuniary benefits to persons who have been employed as aforesaid, or to their legal personal representatives, widows or dependants.

(2) The said powers shall, in the case of persons who retire after the passing of this Act from such employment as aforesaid, also extend so as to include power to permit the allocation, to such extent and subject to such conditions as the Admiralty may prescribe, to the spouses and dependants of any such persons of pensions granted to them from the funds of Greenwich Hospital.

(3) The said section twenty, as extended by the said section eight and by the foregoing provisions of this section, shall have effect as if the words ‘(subject to the approval of Her Majesty in Council)’ were omitted therefrom.

(4) The powers conferred by this section shall be in addition to and not in derogation of any existing power...
