Hammell had been caretaker for almost two weeks before stepping up from academy director to get the job full-time as the Fir Park club's 26th gaffer.

The Well Hall of Famer, who had 17 years as a player at the Steelmen, began his transfer plans during his stand-in period in case he got the nod.

Hammell, right, said: "It's something we've been preparing for if it was to be successful.

"And we have a number of names we want to bring in.

"We have some hugely talented players in this group and it's now my job to get the best from them.
