Health minister hints Boris Johnson will allow more guests at weddings; Increasing the number of people who can attend a wedding is something the Prime Minister is looking at, even if lockdown is extended.

Boris Johnson could announce a change to wedding rules to allow more guests even if he confirms as expected that lockdown will be extended.

Edward Argar, a Conservative MP and health minister said married couples to be are "very much" in the mind of Boris Johnson at the moment.

"There will be a lot of couples who planned, hoped, to do it, put a line through it, done it again and rescheduled again," he told Sky News.

"Not only does that cost money, but emotionally that is incredibly difficult for couples who want to have their special day and want to get married.

"Again, I'm not going to pre-empt what the Prime Minister will say later, but I know that weddings and people in that particular situation will be very much in his mind at the moment, it's one of the things he has been looking at."

England is currently in Step 3 of its four-stage plan to lift lockdown. That means What will happen to weddings after June 21 if lockdown ends or is extended, indoors or outside. There was hope that England could enter Step 4 -the end of lockdown restrictions -from Monday June 21, which would allow for unlimited guests and no social distancing restrictions.

But Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to announce that lockdown will be extended beyond June 21, likely to Monday July 19, due to the Delta variant.

GP Dr Hilary Jones addressed the issue on Good Morning Britain. Dr Hilary says he expects the Government to announce an increase to the cap of guests allowed at a wedding.
