Her Majesty, in pursuance of section 2(5)(b) of the Health Service Commissioners Act 19931is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

S-1 Citation and commencement

1. This Order may be cited as the Health Service Commissioner for England (Authorities for the Ashworth, Broadmoor and Rampton Hospitals) Order 1996 and shall come into force on 15th April 1996.

S-2 Designation as bodies subject to investigation

Designation as bodies subject to investigation

2. The Ashworth Hospital Authority, the Broadmoor Hospital Authority and the Rampton Hospital Authority2are hereby designated as authorities to which section 2 of the Health Service Commissioners Act 1993 (health service bodies subject to investigation) applies.

3. The Health Service Commissioner for England (Special Hospitals Service Authority) Order 19903is revoked.

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order designates the Ashworth, Broadmoor and Rampton Hospital Authorities as “relevant bodies” within the meaning of section 2 of the Health Service Commissioners Act 1993 so that the Health Service Commissioner for England may investigate complaints which relate to these Special Health Authorities or their officers. The Order also revokes the Health Service Commissioner for England (Special Hospitals Service Authority) Order 1990 consequentially upon the abolition of the Special Hospitals Service Authority.


(2) These authorities are established by the Authorities for the Ashworth, Broadmoor and Rampton Hospitals (Establishment and Constitution) Order 1996 (S.I.1996/488).
