G A Cook (Letters, March) identifies an important point: global warming may be occurring, but the cause is not certain. Just because many scientists blame carbon emissions, they aren't necessarily right. The human effect can only be small compared with that of natural phenomena. We cannot affect sunspot activity, volcanic eruptions, the oceans, forest absorption of CO2 and so on.
