HISTORY
OF
ECONOMIC THOUGHT
NEWSLETTER
The first issue of the
Newsletter
appeared in November 1968 and it is now
regularly produced on a twice yearly basis. It followed the very successful
conference on the history of economic thought held at the University
of
Sussex in January, 1968. Since then further conferences have been held at
Nottingham
(1969)
and Sheffield (1970).
The purpose
of
the
Newsletter
is to provide an exchange
of
information
between scholars. At present there are over
200
correspondents in the U.K.,
North America, Europe and the Far East. Indeed the readership is taking
on an increasingly international character.
A good example
of
the usefulness of the
Newsletter
is in connection
with the intended publication of a guide to archive sources in the history
of economic thought. The Committee responsible has obtained grants from
the Royal Economic Society and the Social Science Research Council and
a
full
time archivist has recently been appointed. Progress was reported in
Newsletters
2
and
4
and it is expected that readers will
be
able to provide
valuable information about the location of unpublished papers.
Newsletters have included entertaining and (we hope) instructive accounts
of discussions at the three conferences mentioned above, surveys of recent
research and lists less well-known publications (including a long list
of
Japanese work published in the post-war period).
We would welcome an extension
of
our readership and wish
to
make
our
activities as widely known as possible. We have established links with the
Hislory
of
Political
Economy
now published by Duke University.
The subscription
to
the
Newsletter
is
lo/-
per academic year. New
sub-
scribers should note that
'
back numbers
'
(i.e. issues
1-3)
can be obtained
at
51-
each. Subscriptions and requests for back numbers should be sent to
Mr. David
A.
Collard,
History of Economic Thought Newsletter,
Department of Economics,
University of Bristol,

HY.
I
shall be delighted to hear from anyone engaged in research which he thinks
might be of interest
to
other scholars: requests for help in finding material
etc. can be included in future Newsletters.
DAVID
COLLARD, Editor
(for Editorial Committee).
