Chief Constable of Pembrokeshire
ROUT
10.30on
the
morning of
the
znd
April, 1937, a
constable stationed in a small town received acomplaint
by a
man
to the effect
that
two
out
of five bags of
Kerr's
Pink
seed potatoes had been stolen from ashed.
This
shed was in a
ploughed field situated some 2miles away from the police
station,
and
the
theft had been committed between Ip.m. on
the
31st
March
and
9 a.m, on the
znd
April, 1937.
The
complainant said he saw the five bags of potatoes in
theshed at 3 o'clock on
the
afternoonofthe30thMarch, at which
time he left the shed, after having securely locked it,
and
that
on going to the shed at about 9o'clock on the morning of the
znd
April he had found
that
someone had entered it and
stolen two bags of
Kerr's
Pink seed potatoes.
With
the view to tracing the thief,
the
constable at once
went to the shed and made athorough examination of it and the
surrounding area.
He
found
that
in addition to the locked door
it had also a window which was protected on the outside by a
wooden cover,
and
on the inside of this cover there was a wire
netting protection of tin. mesh.
He
found
that
the thief had taken
out
two of the boards in
the window
and
had inserted his
hand
through the aperture,
with intent to unscrew a
nut
on a bolt which passed through
the door to the outside and on which was fastened a lock.
Having failed in this attempt, the thief cut abigger piece of
the
wire netting in order to allow him bodily access into the shed.
The
construction of the shed suggested
that
more
than
one
person had been engaged in the theft.
The
window measured
3 ft. by 4 ft., and its base was at least 5 ft. from the ground
level.
There
was also evidence
that
two sacks had rested
out-
side on the ground immediately below the window.
