1995 CHAPTER 33

An Act to amend the provisions of the Licensing Act 1964 relating to permitted hours in licensed premises and clubs on Sundays and Good Friday; and for connected purposes.

Be it enacted by the Queen's most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

S-1 Permitted hours in licensed premises.

(1) Section 60 of the Licensing Act 1964 (permitted hours in licensed premises) shall be amended as follows.

(2) For subsection (1)(b) (Sundays, Christmas Day and Good Friday) there shall be substituted—

‘(b) on Sundays, other than Christmas Day, and on Good Friday, the hours from twelve noon to half past ten in the evening; and

(c) on Christmas Day, the hours from twelve noon to half past ten in the evening, with a break of four hours beginning at three in the afternoon.’.

(3) In subsection (6) (off-licences), the words ‘or Good Friday’ shall be omitted and at the end of that subsection there shall be added the words ‘and the permitted hours on Sundays, other than Christmas Day, shall begin at ten in the morning’.

S-2 Permitted hours in registered clubs.

2 Permitted hours in registered clubs.

(1) In section 62(1) of the Licensing Act 1964 (permitted hours in registered clubs)—

(a) for paragraph (a) there shall be substituted—

‘(a) on days other than Christmas Day, the general licensing hours;’; and

(b) in paragraph (b), for the words ‘Sundays, Christmas Day and Good Friday,’ there shall be substituted the words ‘Christmas Day,’.

(2) In section 62(3) of that Act (notice of permitted hours) for the words ‘on Sundays, Christmas Day and Good Friday’ there shall be substituted the words ‘on Christmas Day’.

3. In section 67A(4) of the Licensing Act 1964(restriction orders) for the words from ‘specify’ to ‘and may’ there shall be substituted the words—

‘(a) specify any time between half past two and half past five in the afternoon on weekdays other than Good Friday, and between three and seven in the afternoon on Sundays and Good Friday, and

(b)’.

S-4 Consequential amendments and repeals.

4 Consequential amendments and repeals.

(1) The amendments of the Licensing Act 1964 set out in Schedule 1 to this Act (which are consequential on sections 1 to 3) shall have effect.

(2) The enactments listed in Schedule 2 to this Act are hereby repealed to the extent specified in the third column of that Schedule.
