Lifesaving Glasgow workmen track smell of smoke to house fire and alert sleeping occupant

BT Openreach engineers Robert Love and Stephen McQueen were working in the Pollok area when they heard a persistent fire alarm in the distance

Ex-firefighter Robert couldn't resist investigating and after trying a few doors they tracked down the one where the smell of smoke was worse.

They then hammered on the door and managed to rouse an occupant, who was asleep in the bedroom upstairs.

Robert, who served with The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) as a crew manager for 25 years, then switched off the electricity and called the fire brigade, and the occupant evacuated the house.
