The Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Whereas a draft of this Order has been approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in pursuance of section 1(4) of the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 19751and of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:—

S-1 Citation, commencement and revocation

1.—(1) This Order may be cited as the Lord Chancellor’s Salary Order 1988.

(2) This Order shall come into force on the day on which it is made.

(3) The Lord Chancellor’s Salary Order 19872is hereby revoked.

S-2 Increase of Lord Chancellor’s salary

2. For the amount specified in subsection (2) of section 1 of the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 19751as the aggregate annual amount of the salary payable to the Lord Chancellor under that subsection and the salary payable to him as Speaker of the House of Lords there shall be substituted—

(a) for the period beginning with the day on which this Order is made and ending with 30th September 1988, £86,240;

(b) for any subsequent period, £87,250.

This Order increases the total salary payable to the Lord Chancellor under the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975 and as Speaker of the House of Lords. The Order provides for the Lord Chancellor to receive a £2,000 lead over the Lord Chief Justice.
