The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty in Council

Whereas a draft of this Order has been approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in pursuance of section 1(4) of the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975( a) and of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows:--

Citation, commencement and revocation

1.--(1) This Order may be cited as the Lord Chancellor's Salary Order 1986.

(2) This Order shall come into operation on 8th July 1986.

(3) The Lord Chancellor's Salary Order 1985( b) is hereby revoked.

Increase of Lord Chancellor's salary

2. For the amount specified in subsection (2) of section 1 of the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975 as the aggregate annual amount of the salary payable to the Lord Chancellor under that subsection and the salary payable to him as Speaker of the House of Lords there shall be substituted £79,400.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This Note is not part of the Order.)

This Order increases the salary payable to the Lord Chancellor under the Ministerial and other Salaries Act 1975. The Order provides for the Lord Chancellor to receive a £2,000 lead over the Lord Chief Justice. The salary quoted represents a maximum and may not be the actual salary claimed.
