Lout bottled party host as he hadn't been invited to gathering

Daniel McCrudden, 20, hounded Lewis Beaton down the street and plunged the glass bottle into his skull.

McCrudden first chinned Mr Beaton about being invited to a house party the victim was holding with his friends, then turned violent when his request was blanked.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard McCrudden first accosted Mr Beaton at a shop in Renfrew and later pursued him down Newmains Road in the town, where he carried out the attack.

Procurator fiscal depute David McDonald said: "Mr Beaton was in a local shop at Paisley Road, Renfrew, at around 9.45pm on May 7, this year, when he was met by Darren McCrudden, who was in the company of another male.

"He began to ask Mr Beaton about his plans for the evening.

"And, in conversation, he began inviting himself to a small gathering Mr Beaton was intending on having.

"McCrudden was insisting that he was attending, but Mr Beaton walked away from the accused, and walked towards an address."

The court heard McCrudden lost the plot and went after the victim, who fled down the street, shouting for assistance from his friends who were waiting in cars.

Mr McDonald added: "The complainer noticed that both McCrudden and his companion where following him.

"He ran towards the locus where his friends were waiting for him and began shouting for his friends who were sitting outside in their cars, as he believed he was about to be attacked.

"On arrival, McCrudden struck Mr Beaton with a bottle, which smashed, on the back of the head.

"Mr Beaton turned round, grabbed McCrudden, pulled him to the ground, and punched him three times."
