A poorer show of cows on the whole but trade maintained last week's rates and maybe even a touch dearer.

The better well fleshed cows once again selling tremendously well with two Limousin cows breaking the 200ppkg barrier from Mr JW Smith-Jackson High Town selling to 207.5p and 203.5p. A reduced entry this week due to snowy weather. All classes a real trade and the average up 20p on the week and an overall average per head of £118.68.

Top price was £140 from Dave Brodie, Chesters, who's pen of 42 Texel x hoggs averaged £128.21. Texel x also topped the ppkg with High Baulk selling to 315.0p.

Fast becoming a popular place to do business for both buyers and sellers.

Forward were 61 Steers and 44 heifers totalling 105 store cattle and 45 store hoggs. Many cattle had travelled over 60 miles to be shown and sold in Acklington and by doing so these vendors were greatly rewarded in values achieved.

With 27 buyers present acting on 40 plus accounts. There were all types of cattle presented from the very best to some native breeds and men for every type.

Forward at the weekly prime stock sale were this week a show of 80 prime cattle with 29 Cast cows.

All cattle again met a trade and demand to rival any live centre or deadweight service. Several local new vendors were seen back to Acklington after several years trading elsewhere.

Forward were 961 prime hoggs and 232 cast ewes. What a trade the hoggs were.

Absolutely fantastic values were achieved once again. Top grossing hoggs were £155 and top price per kilo were 390pkg.

Prime Clean Prime Heifers Top price per kilo heifer was 242p for a home bred lim heifer that realised £1457 and was sold forward from the Annett Family of Widdrington Fm. The heifer was battled for by several soul's keen on her, coming out victorious was Mr M Etherington of West Yorkshire.

Top grossing heifer was again sold by the Annett family, this time this lim heifer realised £1560 and was again purchased by Mr M Etherington of West Yorkshire.

The steers were sold forward from the Blagdon Burn Fm team. Thomas, Ed and Father Andrew. Purchaser of the £1458 steer was Hartshead meats at Millstone Farm and the £1366

Steer was Mr M Etherington of West Yorkshire.

Top grossing steer realised £1558 for well fleshed and finished Lim consigned from Messers W Curry & Son of Howick Scar. The steer was purchased by Hartshead Meats of Millstone Fm.
