The Maximum Number of Judges (No. 2) Order 1993

Whereas a draft of the following Order was laid before Parliament, and approved by resolution of each House of Parliament:

Now, therefore, Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 4(4) of the Supreme Court Act 19811, is pleased, by and with the dvice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows

S-1 This Order may be cited as the Maximum Number of Judges (No.2)...

1. This Order may be cited as the Maximum Number of Judges (No.2) Order 1993 and shall come into force on 13th May 1993.

2. Section 4(1)(e) of the Supreme Court Act 19812, prescribing the maximum number of puisne judges of the High Court, shall be amended so as further to increase the maximum number of those judges to 98.

This Order amends the Supreme Court Act 1981 by increasing the maximum number of puisne judges of the High Court from 85 to 98.
