A-mazing students have plenty to celebrate

At Middlesbrough College, 18-year-old Sam Young achieved three A* in maths, chemistry, and physics, and has secured a place at Durham University to study physics and astronomy.
Sam, who will be the first person in his family to go to university, said: "I was so nervous waiting for my results, but nothing prepares you for that feeling of achieving your dream grades.
"After life in lockdown, I can't wait to go out and explore the world, meet new people and work towards my dream of becoming a Doctor of Science."
Dylan Welikela, 19, got a Distinction in Level 3 networking and system security.
He started an apprenticeship yesterday with Middlesbrough College in digital marketing.
Dylan said: "It's good, it shows the hard work has paid off for a good grade."
Sophie Thrower, 18, received a B in history, a B in geography, and a Distinction* in applied human biology.
She said: "I'm surprised I've done so well, I didn't think I was going to get the grades that I did, but I did and I'm so happy!"
Sam Rigg, 17, achieved a Distinction* in media and film and also won media student of the year.
Sam said: "I'm pretty happy about it, I didn't think I'd get the star.
"I've only done one year so far so I've got another to go then I'll probably go to uni to study film."
Seventeen-year-old Mia O'Kane got an A in her Level 3 health and social care BTEC.
Mia said: "Working from home was difficult but once we were back things were a lot easier."
She has another year to go where she'll do the extended diploma, then hopes to go to university to be either a teacher or paramedic.
Holly Kidger, 17, achieved an A* in childcare and education studies.
She is going to the University of York to study education studies and hopes to be a teacher. Holly said: "I'm really happy, shocked really.
"I was expecting a good grade but after this year I doubted myself."
Eighteen-year-old Jessica Darby also gained an A* in childcare and education studies and wants to teach in the future.
Jessica has secured a place at York St John to study primary education.
She said: "I feel disbelief. I've been thinking about results day for so long and I thought we'd never get there."
Ami Leake, 18, achieved a C in politics and an A in her extended project qualification (EPQ).
She collected her results with her son, Elijah.
Ami said: "It's been hard studying during lockdown and being a mum but my son makes me want to study more and get stuck in."
Middlesbrough College is celebrating another impressive year of results, with an overall pass rate of 99%, with 82% of A-Level students achieving A*-C grades.
