A car made by Mercedes-Benz (OTCMKTS: DMLRY) has become the most expensive car in the world following a recent auction.
In the recently held private auction, the firm's 1955 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe fetched EUR135m (USD143m). The coupe prototype is named after its creator and chief engineer, Rudolf Uhlenhaut. The record for the most expensive car was previously held by the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, which fetched USD48.4m in 2018.
The proceeds from the auction are to be used to fund a global scholarship programme.
