Abstract
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to inspirebusiness leaders with fresh ideas to create a positive
work environmentthat uplifts and motivates their employeesin a manner that increases job fulfillment and
businessgrowth.
Design/methodology/approach The author’sapproach to discovering these solutionsinclude putting
to use ideas thatshe has developed over 25 yearsof working in the corporate environmentand being an
entrepreneur, with the desire to create highly positive and productive work environments to realize
successfulbusinesses and successful lives for everyoneinvolved.
Findings There are several simplebut powerful things that every manager and business leader can do
to promote a highly productive and motivated workforce. Mind and body wellness is a foundation for
performance and motivation, with a focus on the mind. If managers and business leaders cultivate an
open and encouraging work culture, the positive psychology experienced by employees will help to
motivatethem in both their professional and personallives.
Originality/value The author findsthat people rarely understand the impact of mind and body wellness
on the successof the individual and the organizationoverall.

Research has shown that 61 per cent of employees are burned out. As stress and
health issues continue to rise, lost work days rise, costing organizations $3.5bn
each year. As these issues continue to grow, health-care costs grow and
productivity falls. It is actually the loss of productivity that costs organizations 2- 3more
than any rise in health-care costs. All of thiscan be turned around with innovative motivation
and wellness strategies. An organization that cultivates high energy, employee
empowerment and motivation will realize a substantial increase in productivity, which can
be achieved with little to no spending. When employees are energized, both physically and
emotionally, motivation increases and along with it, productivity and thereafter, the bottom
line.
How do we turn all of this around? It is actually simple. It just takes some ingenuity and
creativity, which is exactly what we want to cultivate in our employees. We like to say at
SanaView, and at our emPower3 leadership retreats, that “Happy employees are
profitable employees.” Yes, possibly that sounds too simplistic, but it is actually the key
to success. Happy employees are motivated employees because they feel energized,
appreciated and empowered, which creates a commitment and dedication to their work
and the success of the organization. These are essential ingredients for a healthy bottom
line.
Many are aware of the ongoing research that proves that moneyis rarely the most important
motivator for ourselves and our employees. Yes, a nice, healthy paycheck is certainly
helpful, but there is so muchthat businesses can do to create not only employee loyaltyand
increased retention but also committed and reliable team members who truly enjoy their
jobs. True value happens when employees’ work comes from a place of pride and
appreciation and a sense of purpose.
