MSP calls for education chief to make exams decision

Meghan Gallacher's call comes after Education Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville said that a decision on whether exams will be cancelled may not be made until the end of March

The Conservative MSP says pupils and parents in Lanarkshire cannot continue to be left in the dark until then, after the upheaval of the last two years of the pandemic.

Meghan said: "The SNP must assure every pupil in Lanarkshire that they will be able to sit their exams this year as planned.

"Another year of exam chaos is unthinkable given the uncertainty pupils have endured over the last couple of years.

"Our young people, teachers and parents in Lanarkshire cannot be left in the dark until the end of March.

"That is far too late to be making a decision.

"Pupils in Lanarkshire deserve a return to a normal school experience, rather than the SNP continuing to cancel exams year after year.

"I will continue to push the Education Secretary to make this decision as soon as possible and to demand that standards across Scotland's once-proud education system are restored to the levels they were at before the SNP came to power."
