A mum has described how her 'world fell apart' when her daughter went missing during a shopping trip to Asda.

She experienced the moment every parent dreads while out shopping on Thursday.

Lauren said she felt 'helpless' and 'genuinely thought she had gone', while other shoppers rallied round to help.

Thankfully, her daughter was found hiding underneath some clothes, in one of the aisles, by a kind stranger.

Sharing her experience in a local crime watch group on Facebook, Laura thanked everyone who helped, reported the Liverpool Echo.

She wrote "Not a crime but a thank you, if you were in Birkenhead Asda today while my daughter thought it was funny to play hide and seek under cloths and we genuinely thought she had gone.

"To each person who stopped to look and help find her, to the woman with her son who didn't stop, the woman who found her and everyone else who didn't stop looking.

"I even had a teenage boy of his own back come find me and help me look. Today was a real eye opener to how many kind people are about! So again if you helped me in any given way thank you!"
