New channel GB News broadcasts live from Newcastle with ex Tyne Tees presenter Rachel Sweeney; GB News launched on Sunday evening and the channel has wasted no time in heading to Newcastle for a live report.

Newly launched channel GB News has been in Newcastle, less than 48 hours after its highly publicised launch.

Plans for the new station were first revealed earlier this year, with journalist and regular This Morning guest Andrew Neil at the helm and well known faces like Dan Wooton among its presenters.

GB News launched on Sunday night and immediately sparked a huge reaction with the channel and Dan himself among the top UK trends on Twitter as the former Sun entertainment guru interviewed the likes of Nigel Farage and Lord Alan Sugar.

As well as its London based team, GB News has regional correspondents all over the country and one of those is a well known face from our region, former Tyne Tees host Rachel Sweeney.

Rachel, who had been with with ITV for over a decade and was best known for presenting breakfast news bulletins, walked away from the channel last month to take up her new role as GB News' North East reporter.

And she was in action on Tuesday as she joined The Great British Breakfast's Rosie Wright live from Newcastle Quayside.
