Cyberliability
Cyberliability: generic term coined in the late 1990s
for various types of legal liability arising from
busi-
ness use of the Internet and
e-mail
including cyber-
libel,
copyright infringement, breach of confidence,
negligent virus transmission, inadvertent contracts,
computer
hacking,
and so
on.
Of particular relevance
to any company whose employees have access to e-
mail and/or the Internet, and those trading on the
web (e-commerce) or relying on computer networks.
Exposure to cyberliability can be reduced through
technical,
legal, and insurance solutions.
For the first time in the UK, three specialist firms of
international reputation are co-operating to meet the
cyberliability challenge. These are Integralis,
Theodore Goddard, and Nelson Hurst and Marsh.

A useful looking site in the area of e-commerce is
being offered by the University of Ulster's Faculty of
Informatics, 'ecom' is a gateway to electronic com-
merce research resources published on the Internet,
and caters for informatics and business students as

research currently undertaken by the Faculty. Under
the 'ecom Research' menu, is information on the
Faculty's research projects, student dissertations,
selected publications (available online soon), and
information relating to electronic commerce and the
European Union.
In addition to highlighting sites, ecom provides links
to research groups and
centres,
news and resources,
academic journals as well as conferences and work-
shops for these areas, ecom has been designed to
categorise links to important electonic commerce,
Internet intelligence and Internet marketing sites
world-wide and to make these links available to a
wide audience. It is constantly updated with news of
