New Spain laws all holidaymakers need to know before summer getaways

One country that has recently relaxed its travel restrictions is Spain. Travellers from the UK who can either show proof of being fully vaccinated, or of having recovered from prior COVID-19 infection in the last six months, or who are aged under 12 years old, no longer need to complete Spain’s Travel Health Control form

But it's important to note Spain has several local laws and customs, which if broken could result in a fine. There has also been a recent change in the law making your tapas and pintxos bills in the future slightly cheaper.

Dress

In some parts of Spain, it’s against the law to be in the street wearing only a bikini or swimming shorts/trunks. Being bare-chested has also been banned in some areas of Spain.

Some local councils will impose fines if you’re caught wearing swimwear on the seafront promenade or the adjacent streets.

Don't use soap or shampoo

At all Spanish beach showers, it is illegal to wash with soap and shampoo and you can be fined up to €750 if caught doing so. This is because the chemicals in these products are harmful to marine life.

No smoking
