An
Act to amend
the
Newhaven and Seaford
Sea

and
for
other
purposes.
HEREAS the Commissioners for the Newhaven and
Seaford Sea Defence Works (in this Act referred
to as
''
the Commissioners
")
were constibuted by the
Newhaven and Seaford Sea Defences Act 1898 (in this
Act referred
to
as
"
the Act of 1898
")
and by that Act
were empowered to make and maintain certain
sea
walls described in the Act of 1898 for preventing en-
croachments of the sea between Newhaven and Seaford
and to construct and maintain groynes
or
other defensive
works on the foreshore in front
of
certain existing sea
walls and were also required to maintain one of the
said existing sea walls and
a
portion of the other existing
sea wall
:
And whereas certain companies authorities and
persons were required by the Act of 1898 to bear in
the proportions specified in that Act the cost of con-
structing the said works and
it
was provided
that
the
expense of the maintenance and repair by the Commis-
sioners of the
sea
walls and works authorised by the
Act of 1898
or
required by that
Act
to be maintained
by the Commissioners should be borne by the Newhaven
Harbour Company the London Brighton and South
Coast Railway Company the County Council of East'
Sussex the Seaford Urban Dist'rict Council the Newhaven
Rural District Council the Trustees for Newhaven
Harbour and Ouse Lower Navigation and (if and when
they should
so
agree) the Newhaven Urban District
