Notorious Paul Ferris charging punters £85 to attend live show on his life of crime

It comes amid calls for a hotel to scrap plans to host the notoriousnext year.

Ferris has arranged to share his life story in front of a live audience atGlasgow'sCrowne Plaza Hotel in March.

But SNP MSP John Mason, who represents the area where two of Ferris’ close associates were found shot dead, urged hotel bosses to cancel the booking.

The bodies of Bobby Glover and Joe “Bananas” Hanlon were discovered in a Ford Orion which was parked in Shettleston. It is believed they were murdered in retaliation to the fatal shooting of Arthur Thompson Jnr.

Ferris was later found not guilty following a murder trial at the High Court in Glasgow.

Mason said: “I don’t think anyone should be profiting from crime.

“It doesn’t matter if it is the Crowne Plaza or anyone else, it doesn’t matter, no one should profit.

“If there is any cost to the event, it absolutely should not be funded by the taxpayer.

“I have major reservations on whether it should even be happening at all. I’m very uneasy about it.”

The MSP’s constituency bore the brunt of gangland violence linked to Ferris before he was jailed for gun-running in 1998.

He was caught with three machine guns, six 25-round magazines, three bags of ammunition, three silencers and a box containing four detonators.

A source said: “There is bound to be a police presence at the event. Ferris would be disappointed if there wasn’t.

“He was a major figure in organised crime in Scotland for 30 years and people have long memories.

“Ferris being in a public place at an arranged time is something Police Scotland can’t ignore."

Ferris, 57, built a notorious reputation working for gangster Arthur Thompson in the 1980s.
