The Number of Members of South Wales Police Authority Order 1998

Made 18th December 1998

Laid before Parliament 23th December 1998

Coming into force 1st January 1999

In exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 4(2) of the Police Act 19961, the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

S-1 This Order may be cited as the Number of Members of South Wales...

1. This Order may be cited as the Number of Members of South Wales Police Authority Order 1998 and shall come into force on 1st January 1999.

S-2 The number of members of the South Wales Police Authority shall...

2. The number of members of the South Wales Police Authority shall be nineteen, of which six members shall be persons appointed under paragraph 5 of Schedule 2 to the Police Act 1996 (and, accordingly, by virtue of paragraph 1(2)(a) and (c) of that Schedule, ten members shall be members of relevant councils appointed under paragraph 2 of it and the remainder shall be magistrates appointed under paragraph 8 of it).

This Order increases the number of members of the South Wales Police Authority from seventeen (under section 4(1) of the Police Act 1996) to nineteen.


(1) 1996 c. 16; the power in section 4(2) is extended by paragraph 1(2)(b) of Schedule 2 to that Act.
