OBITUARY
Mike Redmayne
We are saddened to announce that Mike Redmayne, a long-standing member of
the Modern Law Review Editorial Committee, died on 10 June at the age of 47.
Mike was appointed to the Committee in 2002 and he became the journal’s
Reviews Editor the following year. In due course he would serve as one of the
Articles Editors, and his last editorial role – which he was still performing a
month before his death – was as Production Editor.
Like all good editors, Mike could be trusted to distinguish between scholar-
ship which is worth putting through a rigorous assessment process and that
which is not. But he also had that less noted but no less significant talent for
spotting and cultivating potential – for distinguishing between work which has
no hope of making it into a peer review journal and that which, carefully revised
in accordance with assessors’ reports, might make it across the line. He worked
hard, as every editor should, to make the content of the journal as carefully
structured, written and reasoned as he could possibly make it. But he also went
